Our Services

What can we help with?

You may be going through a crisis, or have become aware of longstanding issues that need exploring and addressing. You may want to consider counselling if you are experiencing feelings of anxiety or low mood. Counsellors are there to help you find ways of making your difficulties feel more manageable and less overwhelming.

We can help you explore what is going on if you are struggling with particular relationships or wanting to break free from patterns of unhelpful behaviours that seem hard to change. Counselling can help you to manage stress in the work place, and provide comfort and support if you are dealing with loss, bereavement, or health problems.

We know it’s not always easy to talk about difficult experiences. This is why we provide a safe place where you can be supported by people trained to help you. We offer support with various emotional difficulties including:

  • Anxiety
  • Stress
  • Depression
  • Insomnia
  • Bereavement
  • Loneliness
  • Relationships
  • Insecurity
  • Obsession

First Step

The first step for those seeking counselling is to have an initial consultation with one of our counsellors. This will be an opportunity for us to find out in more detail why you would like counselling to help us to match you with the right counsellor and for you to ask any questions you might have. The consultation will be a one-to-one confidential conversation with a trained counsellor. Consultations generally take approximately half an hour and there will be a small charge of £10 to cover the cost of this process. If you would like to request a consultation, please click here.

Counselling sessions

After the initial consultation, if you chose to receive counselling at Eastgate, you will meet with a counsellor, either in a private counselling room at our Eastgate building (link to Eastgate building website) or online via Zoom. We can offer weekly or fortnightly sessions depending on your preference, at an agreed regular time. Each session will last 50 minutes and the cost is £40 per session. We do offer a bursary fund for those struggling financially. Please contact us by email at counselling@eastgate.org.uk if you would like to find out more about that.

Online counselling

We offer online counselling because we believe it is an excellent way of increasing the accessibility of our services. We have supported clients from diverse geographical locations as well as those who find it difficult to attend appointments in person due to anxiety, physical disability or time constraints. Online counselling is not a ‘second best’ option. It is proven to be as effective (and sometimes more effective) than face to face counselling. If you elect to receive support in this way, you will have an initial consultation over the telephone and then be connected with a counsellor who will offer you regular 50-minute appointments via Zoom. All our therapists have experience and training in providing online counselling. If you would like to request some online counselling please click here and indicate your preference on the application form.

Couples counselling

We offer counselling to couples who are looking for help in resolving conflict, greater relationship satisfaction, to gain insight into the relationship and to find a way forward.
Couples therapy isn’t only for those facing serious relationship difficulties, it can also be a space for those who want to invest in improving communication or working through a specific problem that has caused disconnection.
Couples counselling is available both face to face and online, with our couples therapist Lesley.

Testimonials

“We feel that we have learned to communicate better as a couple, with greater understanding for the other. We are kinder to one another and more connected. We have learned ways of managing some of the difficulties we have in our relationship that will help us throughout our marriage”

“I have started to build trust with my counsellor, giving me the reassurance that whatever I had to deal with between sessions I could take to her the next time I saw her. This has reduced my feelings of isolation and given me hope of finally finding freedom and of being accepting of myself.”
